The Psychology specialisation of the Master of Health Science focuses on counselling psychology, combining courses such as Therapeutic Theories and Skills and Psychological Assessment and Diagnosis with a research project or thesis. It is the required prerequisite for AUT's Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology, the final academic step toward registration with the New Zealand Psychologists Board.
Currently only open to invited AUT Bachelor of Health Science (Honours, Psychology) graduates from 2027 intake onward; historically required a relevant Bachelor's + suitability interview, references, police vetting, and HPCA/Children's Act compliance.
